I call delusion shippers. TheLove4Dramas - of course they can evaluate on any merit they like, but it's increasingly looking like "not being Kim So Hyun or Kim Yoo Jung or the commenter's bias actress" is being treated as a demerit against Chae Soo Bin. Just pointing that out.
C Not all shippers are delusional. Perhaps don't jump to conclusion and resort to name calling. It does not hurt us to be the better person. CSB is still the lead, no matter what anyone wants or says. Be happy with that and let them have their opinion. Yoo Seung Ho is adorable in this!! I was nodding along with Jia when she said he's so handsome!
I don't find ex-bf using her face creepy, the guy liked her, he seems like he doesn't have experience in dating or she's the only woman he's ever knew so he doesn't have the imagination to think of other faces.
Rather than creepy he should've let her know he's using her face, offer a compensation for using her face. I was gonna forget the feels of the music background becoz of the eye candy scenes but yes The introduction of Aji 3 bg music got me to a wow moment feels and the little details played really appeal to me as well.
I think it's interesting how each recapper on this site has their own writing style. I started reading the recap without looking at the byline and realized this person's style is one I'm not familiar with. Turns out I've never read any of the shows Teriyaki has recapped. It's nice to meet you Teriyaki.
On to the show, I agree about Ji-a being a little off-putting. At first, I was worried that this character would be like her character in Strongest Deliveryman and her character was one of the reasons I could never stick to that show, but I'm glad that they're not the same even if they're both headstrong women.
I've only been watching kdramas for five months so it's a treat to recognize actors from previous dramas. Please pass along my love to Kim Nam-gil. And why did his many amusements in the early sequence not involve remote contact with humans? There are lots of ways to interact enjoyably with people without face-to-face contact. Like Dramabeans.
Pretty sure this is not the last time that robo-bust is gonna be mentioned, heeheehee. Why am I strangely so amused by it? I can already see this drama being overhyped by international fans like Liar and His Lover which was so bad and now Lee Hyun Woo is officially considered a failure in Korea.
The show is not believable and the characters are just unlikable and unrealistic. The leads have no chemistry and the villain is ridiculous. Mess all around. People can't love what they love anymore? I don't understand. It's a matter of personal taste, if you find it not worth it others are enjoying it, it's well acted by good actors who had many dramas under their belt, and the robot concept is new in dramaland, plus it's cute and light, it doesn't have to be realistic, as for me i have enough realistic real life, i done want to watch it in a drama too.
It's not wrong to hype a show if you enjoy it, and we still in the first week of its run, we don't know what the plot has in store yet. What is this lack of chemistry thing that I keep seeing people talk about? It seems like releasing BTS scenes is a double-edged sword these a days People keep bringing up how awkward actors look BTS and trash the "chemistry" Honestly, I didn't see any bts footage of this drama but what is actually in the episodes is great, Yoo Seung Ho and Chae Soo Bin don't lack chemistry at all.
Obviously there's no romance at this moment but I look forward to seeing their characters together on the screen, that's my test of whether they have chemistry, not whether they are both famous or got deep kisses or look lovey-dovey right from the first week. You haven't made any case that the show LaHL, was bad. I didn't watch it so have no opinion. To relate this show INAR with a second show LaHL and further to a assertion "was so bad" about that second show, is an incorrect use of logical association.
It is doubtful that even a small percentage of "Koreans" know who Lee Hyun Woo is much less have an opinion on his "failure". All the terms in quotes are also ill-defined by the way, another failure in argumentation. I read your comment in Lee Jong Suk's voice lol! Everybody is entittled to their opinion, it is indeed interesting how some shows are successful with international fans and just average in korea.
I agree with you The Liar and His Lover was terrible. I could not stand the terrible acting. It was my first time seeing Joy, I dont follow K pop and hadnt heard of her before and did not enjoy her performance at all. Dropped it. Why do you care so much about what other people like and think about a show?
I've never understood this. I can understand getting frustrated when a show you like doesn't get good ratings because it can affect the production and possibly the types of dramas being produced in the future.
It's also perfectly understandable to express critical opinions of shows--that's what we do here at DB. However, beyond that, why do people care so much about what other people like to the point of being condescending about it? Just let people enjoy what they enjoy. This show is light and fun and made me smile and I'm not going to be ashamed for enjoying it. Sometimes I want a show that lets my brain take a break. He can say 'I can't date, can't get married' in a comedic tone and still make us feel deep despair for him.
Love every second of his presence. Me too, I love him in this role so much. Especially when he tried to make out with the pillow. I agree with you playstore - He is a beautiful young man and when he smiles the screen just glows. Chae Soo-bin is also just a beautiful person to look at. I'm enjoying the anger and bickering between them.
About all the comments above - for some reason people are annoyed at what they see as 'lack of chemistry' - I see it as the beginning of the show and they are probably just starting to work together as actors and also they aren't supposed to have any chemistry! They are supposed to bicker and be nasty to each other! The chemistry will come later. I was totally charmed by the first 4 episodes and plan on enjoying this light and fluffy rom-com.
It beats the hell of out real life right now! Now if they had "We're deeply in love, let's date" sort of chemistry in episode 3 it would have been utterly weird. I am extremely entertained by the drama. That is why they are so fun! I've found it, i've found my crack drama for this season After a long time I got this feeling while watching just the intro episodes of a drama.
If Yoo Seung-ho continues to be this adorable, cutie-with-an-air that hints at sadness, I'm gonna stick with this one through to the end.
I don't know about that assessment of Jia She doesn't get along with her ex-boyfriend or the guy she thinks ripped her off or her brother who doesn't support her entrepreneurial aspirations, that's true.
She's rash and a little ignorant and can be very abrasive, yes, but she's also very human. She gets along fine with her sister-in-law, her niece, her friend, and the other people in line for figurines - including the school girl who had to go to the washroom in the beginning - so she's not a total venom-spitting porcupine.
Yeah, she's kind and considerate to people she doesn't have pre-existing conflicts with or she doesn't think are trying to rip her off.
The very first scene of hers is offering to hold that young girl's place in the line so she can go to the bathroom, I don't know how we go from there to concluding she's totally unlikeable.
The drama went fairly straight into the story without spending boatloads of time going into back plot elements and character setup. Expect that the company maneuverings will play a big role in the drama later. I don't have any problems immersing myself into the characters and motivation. This would be "deep sci-fi" territory though to explore the nature of human affection and artificial consciousness.
I'm sure we all have the same question on our minds, but since it would be a "spoiler", I'm just going to say "I hope we get a pretty decent explanation for his allergy" and leave it at that. I'm thinking that this show could be the perfect little bit of fluff, with the right amount of emotional scenes to make me feel satisfied.
There's nothing I like more than seeing someone who's cold and a little weird fall for someone they've proclaimed to dislike from the start. What's even better is that we can sense undercurrents of Min-kyu being actually very lonely - which is probably the reason why he's even entertaining the idea of a humanoid robot at all. He wants someone around him who can be his friend, and who can touch him without fear that he will die.
And that's such a heartbreaking situation to be in. I'm slightly tickled by the fact that the robot is called Aji and the heroine is Ji-ah. I didn't pick that up from the trailers.
Thanks for the recap, Teriyaki! This was the only drama I checked out in this batch and I found it cute and funny. Yoo seung ho character's loneliness was so palpable, I wanted to give him a hug. I liked jia as well, she is trying hard to achieve her dreams and stand on her own, so when someone refuses to pay money for the work she did, I think it's ok to be pissed off. And chae soo bin is really good as aji 3 as well as jia.
In the last scene, I could tell it was a human trying to be robot whereas as aji 3, she felt like a robot. But, on the other hand, I didn't really like her brother. It's ok to scold her and tell her to be responsible. But, I felt like it was mean of him to throw the cake away. It's like he only sees the outside of her life and assumes she has it easy and does nothing. But, getting a job and doing something you don't like is easier compared to chasing after your dreams even when repeatedly faced with failure.
I feel like Jia and her brother suffer from conflicting points of view. She sees him as blind to his own privilege because he got help from their father to get the education that led to him getting a good job but she didn't get the same so she's struggling and he doesn't consider her situation. Meanwhile he only sees her failed businesses and thinks she's just idling and wasting time.
I feel like they both care for each other but they just need to reconcile their conflict, it's not that they hate each other, they're just hurt. As much as I'm pissed with Jin-bae, I think that's the sad reality of family. I also have to agree with Teacakes beanie here. Jia and Jin-bae are not on the same page when it comes to handling life's challenges. Just reading the recap makes me bored. What a snooze fest of a drama. Romcoms these days get worse and worse.
Was going to watch this for UKJ but can see they are already running his character. The leads look super boring. Realistically speaking what future does CSB really have in Korea. When they already have power house actresses like the Three Kims taking on adult roles now and then the likes of NJH and PEB who have so much acting experience and pretty but talented ones like KJW and GSY who have been breakout stars from the get go without needing to do 3 dramas in a year.
Even if we talk about pure acting CSB is really bland when compared to all these actresses. She has no nuance or varience or star power. She's just been lucky most of the big stars have stayed away from TV this year so a rookie like her got a chance but it's not going to be so easy next year. Everyone of us in the comment section have nothing but good about her acting here and here you come and leave a bad taste in our mouths by criticizing her for her star power?
If you want to criticize her please do with her acting because this drama has enough star power in the name of YSH. I did criticize her acting. I said it was a copy paste of her previous dramas. Read the comment properly.
Why can't I compare her to people I think are better. Its a fact anyways. They'll always be the superior actresses who can distinguish their roles. Why do I have to jump blindly on the CSB brigade just because some people consider her an underdog who needs constant babying and support. Don't over promote her. She's really not even that good just average. As a fan of YSH it hurts to see him act with a mediocre actress like her.
Their chemistry was non-existent and the drama wasn't a hit. If this drama didn't have such low ratings I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be anyone calling CSB mediocre because that's what happens with every low rated drama. People just blame the failure of the ratings on the actors which is unfair.
There has been so many dramas with big stars with low ratings and no name stars in successful projects, so there's no correlation. I knew from the beginning people would happily put the blame on CSB if the drama failed.
Also, fyi there isn't a CSB brigade here because a lot people are legitimately enjoying her acting here. The chemistry wasn't good. It was a historical drama in which the two had only 1. They did perfect on chemistry and only DB users were complaining. Every other streaming site was raving about their chemistry. Which drama in the second half of has had better ratings than Ruler. Overall it is still the 4th highest rated drama this year and has better ratings than even Saimdang and Sassy Girl which had so much media play.
CSB was the reason I had very low expectations from this show: I had seen her in Sassy go go and absolutely detested her character so I was afraid that I would carry the negative association into this role. I liked Chae Soobin in Bluebird's House, my first time seeing her. And I think she is slaying it in Robot, especially as Aji Also, all those roles seem to be quite different to me.
When people start out with that pov, they will twist anything to fit the narrative of her not being good enough. But it's really too bad that Naver comments about her acting are positive too bad I can read Korean or that she also got good reviews in a historical drama earlier this year Rebel that got better ratings and reviews than My Sassy Girl and Saimdang and some much hyped Hallyu star dramas, but I suppose you can find some way to discredit her for that too.
I haven't been blown away by CSB's acting so far but I am hoping this show will change that. She has been a pretty average actress but this show is just starting. Give her some time? Why so sensitive? Also Ruler was a hit and not a flop. I throughly enjoyed both the episodes and so far I like ALL the characters.
Any situation where she acted out she was clearly provoked. With Minkyu she just wanted her commission after staying at the place to get his action figure for what seemed like a very cold night. As far as Baek-gyun, again I would be super creeped out if my ex made a robot in my likeness and gave her a form of my name. Jia also has a very close relationship with her sister in law and niece and even with the lights guy.
Especially in the next episode we really see her humanity to come through. I definitely prefer Jia over the robot. I think Chae Soo-bin is doing a fantastic job and you can really see a difference between aji3 and jia.
And of course Seung-ho, god, that man can kill me with just his eyes. The cinematography is also really lovely especially in the lights shop and again when minkyu is staring at himself in the room of mirrors. I agree with everything you just said. I thought all her reactions were normal given the situation. And I swear in episode 2 I wanted to slap her brother so hard for being so mean. Way too much bashing on the actress here and ignoring the fact this is a light rom-com and it has just started.
Give it a few episodes and see if the show tanks or the actors don't deliver. She really knocks it out of the park portraying an A. The difference she imbues between the real person and a machine Aju-3 is great.
